Mode: Create archive (batch mode)
This is the main mode for creating and editing photo archive.
The main purpose of this mode is to create and edit photo archive using of group metadata editing operations. It allows you to change the contents of tags by simply dragging photos into the desired section, create audio files, set the GPS coordinates and more. This mode supports the mirror archive and allows you to move or delete the original files, which provides interactive process of creating an archive.
Practical work in this mode starts from adjusting settings and consists of the following steps.
Firstly you have to assign two folders. One folder - the Destination folder - is the root of the archive. The second folder is the root of the mirror archive. In this folder will be stored original copies of the files. We strongly recommend you to keep the originals, although the mirror archive is not mandatory. The files in this archive are organized synchronously with the main archive. They are renamed and placed in folders, just as in the main archive. This approach makes it easy to put in correspondence files of the main and mirror archives.
Secondly, it is necessary to select the source folder with pictures. Input folder may contain subfolders. The total number of files in all folders is not limited. However, one folder can not contain more than 40,000 images. We recommend you to select no more than 100 ... 150 photos for use in this mode. This is achieved by setting filters. There are many effective filters that allow you to limit the number of selected images.
Third, you must configure renaming and organizing of folders. Next, set other parameters, click Save mode settings, then Save and exit. Press Start button.
The main configuration of windows in this mode is shown in the figure below.
The main control window is a tree with EXIF tags in a nodes. It is shown in the figure below.
Each node is an EXIF tag. Each node has sub-nodes. Sub-node is the value of tag of one or a group of pictures. Photos with the same tag values are in the one sub-node. If Photo has not the tag, it will be placed in the sub-node !Meta tag is empty. Each photo Is located at all nodes. You can enter data in the text fields of sub-nodes or to create new sub-nodes. Corresponding tag will be overwritten in all photos of sub-node. In order to create a new subsite, enter text in sub-node !Enter new text here. If you click on sub-node !Click here, to get macros, then you will be given a list of existing values of this tag in the archive. By default, data is taken from the destination folder, but you can change it. Macros selection window is shown below.
Select the desired value, and double-click it or click OK button.
A little differently is created tag of audio comments. To start recording, you need to drag and drop one or more photos on the sub-node !Drag&Drop here, to create new audio record, as shown below.
As a result of this, will be open a window to record audio comments. It is shown below.
If you already have an audio file, you can associate it with the photo, by right click on the sub-node !Open an existing .WAV file, see Fig. below.
File name will be generated automatically. If you edit the file name in the sub-node, the file will not be renamed. Therefore, you should not to do it. Editing should be used to enter an existing audio file.
The program allows you to enter the geotags. To do this, click on any sub-node GPS coordinates. This will open the window shown in the figure below.
Window provides several ways to enter geo coordinates. Data can be entered directly, if you known coordinates. Can be substituted an existing archive data, for this it is necessary to press ... button. Or coordinates can be entered via Google maps.
WiseArchivist allows to record in each photo unique identifier: GUID. To do this, simply drag the photo to sub-noud !Will be generated individually for each picture. Generating of GUID will be made only at the time of the recording files.
The program allows you to move the photos one by one or in groups between sub-nodes. Value of the tag is recorded in all the photos simultaneously. Images can not be dragged between different tags.
The program allows you to move, copy and delete the original files. Availability of variants depends on is active or not option Post-processing operations. To activate this feature, right-click a picture or sub-node. This opens the window shown below.
We do not recommend you to remove the images. Use mirror archive instead.
After you finish editing, click Save button. Only after that the original images are modified. This applies not only EXIF tags but adjusting the images too. So if you click Cancel, all source photos remain untouched.
If the program is set up so that the source photos are moved from the source folder, it becomes possible to carry out editing of archive in the iterative mode. Indeed, if the selection is limited of 100 images, the next session will be selected following 100 photos. If the sorting has been set by date, the following pictures will be selected in chronological order. If the filter has been set in Select files of a fixed interval , in the next session will be selected next interval. And you do not need to change any settings. Just press the Start button.
